Musician, Artist, and Album Cover Photo Shoot

At our studio in Levent, Istanbul, we shoot portraits for album covers, Spotify and Apple Music artist profiles, press releases, and concert posters. Artist photo sessions start at 12,500 TL.

Burak Bulut Yıldırım plans the session and takes the photos himself. Depending on the duration, we deliver between 4 and 12 retouched final shots. We shoot the cover shot, horizontal shots for press, and crop-resistant frames for social media profiles all during the same session; we determine which shot goes where during the shoot. After the shoot, your online selection gallery opens, and the images you choose are retouched and delivered within 3 to 5 business days.

We set up the lighting on set. The skin, hair, fabric, and background are all from an actual shoot; we do not use AI-generated faces or synthetic backgrounds. The image included in your press kit shows the exact same person they will meet on set.

How much does an artist portrait session cost, and how many photos are delivered?

At our studio in Levent, Istanbul, a 60-minute artist portrait starts at 12,500 TL. A 90-minute profile session costs 18,000 TL, and a 120-minute editorial session costs 25,000 TL. Depending on the session length, we deliver 4, 8, or 12 retouched final images. Your final images will be delivered within 3 to 5 business days after you make your selection. Group and band sessions are scheduled separately.

We are planning three separate usage lines in a single session. The cover, press photos, and platform profile are all shot using the same lighting and stylistic choices. This ensures that your album artwork, your magazine photos, and your Spotify avatar all share the same visual language—so they don’t end up as a disjointed collection of images taken at different times.

How does an artist's portrait differ from other portrait works?

What do we do?

We’re putting together a portrait series that captures the essence of your music. Lighting, background, clothing, and color palette are chosen to match your stage identity; framing decisions are made based on your release schedule.

Why is it being planned separately?

The goal of a corporate portrait is to build recognition and trust. The goal of an artist portrait is to capture the atmosphere of the music in a single frame. The same lighting setup doesn’t work for both purposes.

Who is it for?

Musicians, singers, DJs, independent artists, bands, songwriters, and performing artists. We also work directly with management and PR agencies.

Team

Who is directing the shoot?

Burak Bulut Yıldırım plans and photographs the Istanbul sessions. He has been producing professional photography since 2005 and has held the title of Sony Alpha Europe Imaging Ambassador since 2018. His experience with lighting in portraiture, fashion, and advertising translates directly into his framing and atmospheric choices in artistic shoots.

Since the main operations are based in Berlin, shooting dates at the Istanbul Levent studio are scheduled at specific intervals. The LUX team handles appointments, the shooting day schedule, the selection gallery, and the delivery process. Before the shoot date, we discuss your music genre, the mood you’re aiming for, and your intended uses; by the time you arrive on set, we’ll know exactly what we’re shooting.

Share your publication schedule, and let's work together to set a suitable date

Please send us the release date for your single, album, concert, or press release, along with your intended uses and any reference images you may have. We’ll confirm the available dates in Istanbul, the correct session duration, and any additional service needs on the same day. Since the Istanbul program is offered on a seasonal basis, the date is reserved with a prepayment, and the balance is settled at the end of the shoot.

Artist Photo Shoot Prices and Package Details

The packages are designed to produce the visuals the artist specifically needs: Spotify and Apple Music profiles, YouTube cover art, press releases, and album launch announcements. Concept projects that require custom set design, styling consultation, or art direction are also planned and executed separately.

License and Scope of Use. The specified budgets cover the artist’s, musician’s, or DJ’s use of the content on their own platforms, in press kits, and as part of their PR efforts. Advertising campaigns by partner brands or third-party corporate publications are subject to a separate licensing agreement.

Music groups

Group portrait and album cover photo shoots

The goal of a group photo shoot is to establish a cohesive musical identity while preserving each member’s individual character. Throughout the session, both the group’s main shots and individual profile photos for press releases are produced in a single session. As the number of members increases, the area that requires even lighting expands, so the duration and set plan are adjusted accordingly.

Basic group structure

Pair Group Session

Starting at 30,000 TL

A studio recording session designed primarily for electronic music duos or vocal/instrumental projects.

What We Do

  • Collaborative compositions that reflect group dynamics
  • Separate sets of individual portraits for each member
  • Media images in landscape format for PR distribution
Expanding workforces

Adding a team member

+8,000 TL per member

The additional rehearsal time required for individual parts and group arrangements in ensembles consisting of three or more musicians.

What We Do

  • Individual press profiles of the featured musicians
  • Creating a sense of depth in shots of large groups
  • Equal distribution of light intensity among all members

Distinction

The cover, press profile, and platform profile serve different purposes

All three can be taken during the same session, but a single frame won’t capture all three. The most common mistake artists make is using a single photo for the cover, the press release, and their profile. The result is usually this: the cover isn’t strong enough, the press photo is too cropped, and the profile image isn’t legible on a small screen.

Cover

A square composition, a strong silhouette, and negative space that leaves room for typography. It appeals to visual memory; recognizing the face is not always necessary.

Press Profile

Editorial and publishable. Without a horizontal frame, layouts for magazines, news sites, and festival announcements are challenging. The face is legible, and the lighting is clean.

Platform Profile

It scales down to as small as 40 pixels on a phone screen. It must be bold enough to maintain the character’s legibility and simple enough to be recognizable at that size.

Format

What size and format should the album cover photo be?

Album and single covers must be square, meaning they must have a 1:1 aspect ratio. Spotify accepts square images ranging from 640 to 10,000 pixels; Apple Music recommends a size of 3000×3000 pixels, with a minimum of 1400×1400 pixels. The file must be in the sRGB color space, 24-bit, and losslessly encoded. Upscaled files are not accepted.

UsageFormatMeasurementWhat's changing on set?

Press release and EPKHorizontal and vertical togetherHigh resolution suitable for printingThe poster and magazine layout doesn't work without a horizontal square

Your distribution service may require a lower resolution than these limits, so we provide the cover candidate images at their source resolution upon delivery. We also remind you during the design phase that the cover image should not include pricing information, social media handles, or the distributor’s logo.

Platform Rules

What images are required for an artist profile on Spotify and Apple Music?

There are three separate images on a Spotify artist profile: an avatar of at least 750×750 pixels, a header of at least 2660×1140 pixels, and gallery thumbnails of at least 690×500 pixels. Spotify does not allow text, ads, or busy backgrounds in these images; it also does not accept images promoting tours or album releases. This means that posters and profile images must be created separately.

Reasons for Rejection

  • A group logo or typography superimposed on the photo
  • Images with borders used on Apple Music
  • Squares bearing third-party trademarks
  • Low-resolution files or files that have been upscaled
  • Profile images featuring tour dates, album announcements, and promotional text

So what are we doing on set?

  • We're keeping the background simple and saving the busy design for the cover
  • We shoot the wide horizontal shot separately; there is no cropping in the title bar
  • For the avatar, we frame the shot with the face positioned within a circle
  • We're placing the brand logo within the design, not on top of the photo
  • We keep the source files in high resolution; we don't enlarge any frames
Work discipline

Filming process, reservations, and broadcast rights

Studio Schedule

The Istanbul program is seasonal

Burak Bulut Yıldırım’s main operations are based in Berlin. For this reason, shooting dates at the Levent studio in Istanbul are limited to specific time slots. A deposit is required to confirm the reservation, and the balance is due upon completion of the shoot.

You're in control

Digital voting interface

After the photo shoot, you’ll receive a private online gallery. You can select your final photos directly from this gallery yourself, and additional photos can be added to your package if needed. Retouching begins once you’ve made your selections.

Publication Rights

Delimited use

The primary purpose of the work produced is for the artist’s own use. You may print and distribute your profile images, interview materials, and album cover as you wish. Use of the work as an advertising tool by a clothing brand, equipment manufacturer, or any other company is not included in the standard package.

How do proofreading and editing work? Composition and focus are both confirmed on-screen during filming, so what you see on set is exactly what you’ll receive—no surprises. Color, cleanup, and format-related corrections in the delivered files are handled within the scope of the project; new requests outside this scope are scheduled separately. During retouching, we preserve skin and hair texture; overly processed faces are typically rejected by the press anyway.

Preparation

How do you prepare for an artist portrait shoot?

Six tasks to be completed before the shoot directly determine the session’s efficiency. An artist who comes prepared achieves the same result in 90 minutes, while one who comes unprepared takes 120 minutes.

  • Please bring your clothes ironed and in duplicate. Also bring the pieces you use on stage so we can see together how they look on camera.
  • If you plan to bring your instrument, please let us know in advance. The layout and lighting plan vary depending on the set.
  • Please share your reference images and, if available, your cover draft. We’ll adjust the framing based on where the designer plans to place the text.
  • Tell us your release schedule. The release dates for singles, albums, concerts, and press announcements influence the framing decisions.
  • If the manager, record label, or PR agency has a list of required formats, please provide it before the shoot.
  • You cannot use typography or a logo in your profile picture. Incorporate your brand mark into the design itself, rather than placing it on top of the photo.
Production

Real lighting, real costumes, real locations on set

Artist portraits generated by artificial intelligence are now inexpensive and quick to produce. Our workflow takes a different approach: we set up the lighting on set, physically select the background and clothing, and capture the shot with a camera. Retouching is applied only to the extent necessary to preserve the texture of the skin and hair.

In practical terms, this means that the photo included in the press release shows the same person who appears on stage at the concert. If a listener can’t match the photo on your Spotify profile with you in the concert hall, then that visual isn’t doing its job. A portrait taken during an actual performance remains consistent wherever the listener needs to recognize you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Artist Portrait Photography

How much does a portrait session for an artist or musician cost?

Individual sessions start at 12,500 TL. A 60-minute artist portrait session is 12,500 TL, a 90-minute artist profile session is 18,000 TL, and a 120-minute editorial portrait session is 25,000 TL. A two-person group session starts at 30,000 TL, with an additional 8,000 TL for each extra participant.

Can an album cover and a press portrait be photographed during the same session?

Yes. For 90- and 120-minute sessions, we shoot square frames for the cover, horizontal frames for the press, and crop-resistant frames for the platform profile, all using the same lighting setup. Conceptual cover shoots that require set design and styling consultation, however, are planned on a project-by-project basis.

How are group and band photo shoots priced?

Group sessions start at 30,000 TL. This package includes group photos for two members and an individual photo set for each member; an additional 8,000 TL is charged for each additional member. As the number of members increases, the area that requires even lighting expands, so the duration and set plan are determined separately.

What size should the album cover photo be?

The cover art must be square, i.e., in a 1:1 aspect ratio. Spotify accepts square images ranging from 640 to 10,000 pixels. For Apple Music, the recommended size is 3,000 × 3,000 pixels, with a minimum size of 1,400 × 1,400 pixels. The file must be in the sRGB color space; upscaled images are not accepted.

What images are required for a Spotify artist profile?

Spotify profiles use an avatar of at least 750×750 pixels, a header image of at least 2660×1140 pixels, and gallery images of at least 690×500 pixels. Spotify does not allow text, ads, busy backgrounds, or tour or album announcements in these images. That’s why we’re designing the poster and profile image separately.

What are the additional services?

Studio makeup: 8,500 TL; hair styling: 8,500 TL; combined hair and makeup: 14,000 TL. Additional retouched photo: 1,500 TL. Express final delivery within 24 to 48 hours (+) and priority scheduling for after-hours or weekends (+) are available for an additional fee. Styling consultation, art direction, and Spotify Canvas videos are billed on a project-by-project basis.

How is a reservation confirmed?

A deposit is required to confirm the reservation; the balance is settled at the end of the shoot. Since the Istanbul schedule is subject to seasonal availability, the date is only reserved after the deposit is paid. If a date outside of business hours or on the weekend is required, priority scheduling can be arranged for an additional fee of +.

How does a concept album photo shoot differ from standard packages?

Concept album photo shoots are planned on a project-by-project basis. Going beyond standard portrait work, an art direction is established that is directly based on the song’s concept: atmosphere and color schemes tailored to the album’s story, the creation of custom decor or sets within the studio, and, if necessary, the integration of short vertical videos for Spotify Canvas.

When will the photos be delivered?

The final photos will be delivered within 3 to 5 business days after you make your selection. If your publication schedule is tight, expedited delivery (24 to 48 hours) can be arranged before the shoot. The photos will be delivered as high-resolution, web-optimized JPEGs.

How does the editing and revision process work?

Composition and focus are confirmed together on-screen during the shoot. You select the final shots from your online selection gallery. Color corrections, retouching, and format adjustments to the delivered files are covered within the scope of the project; any new requests outside this scope will be scheduled separately.

How is the election gallery coming along?

After the shoot, your online selection gallery will open. From the gallery, you’ll select the final shots included in your package; if you’d like additional final shots, they’ll be added at an extra charge per photo. Once the selected shots have been retouched, they’ll be delivered as high-resolution, web-optimized JPEGs.

Where can I use the photos?

The specified budgets cover the artist’s, musician’s, or DJ’s use of the materials on their own platforms, in press kits, and as part of their PR efforts. You may print and distribute your profile photos, interview materials, and album cover as you wish. Contract text burakbulut.net/terms-and-conditions/ It is listed on the page.

Can I use the photos in a brand's advertising campaign?

This type of use falls outside the scope of the standard package. Advertising campaigns for a clothing brand, equipment manufacturer, or other company you’re collaborating with, as well as third-party corporate publications, are subject to a separate licensing agreement. If you anticipate such use, please let us know before the shoot so we can plan the scope from the start.

Do you create artist portraits using artificial intelligence?

No. We set up the lighting on set, physically select the backdrop and clothing, and capture the shot with the camera. We do not use AI-generated faces or synthetic backgrounds. Retouching is applied only to the extent necessary to preserve skin and hair texture.

Where is your studio in Istanbul?

The studio is located at Meydan Street No. 8B, 34413 Kağıthane. It is about a 5-minute walk from the Levent Metro station and is near the Kanyon Shopping Mall. Shootings are scheduled by appointment, and depending on your needs, we can also work at a different location within Istanbul.

Why is the shooting schedule in Istanbul limited, and how far in advance should I book?

Since Burak Bulut Yıldırım’s main project is based in Berlin, the shooting dates at the Levent studio in Istanbul are limited to specific time slots. If you have a specific date for an album, single, concert, or press release, contacting us a few weeks in advance increases the likelihood of finding a suitable date and allows for a more relaxed selection and editing process.

Are you filming in Berlin or elsewhere in Europe?

Our main operations are based in Berlin, and the Istanbul program runs on a seasonal basis. We schedule headshot sessions for artists and actors living in Berlin through justaheadshot.co. For project work in Europe, we clarify the dates, scope, and licensing terms before the shoot.

Do you shoot Reels or video clips?

The services on this page focus on brand portraits and visual identity. Requests for videos, clips, and animated content are evaluated separately by the production team at LUX Production. A separate plan is also being developed for short vertical content, such as Spotify Canvas.

Should an actor's headshot or cast photo be scheduled through this page?

No. For actor agency applications, casting files, and actor portfolios: actor headshot and cast photo This page offers a more comprehensive service framework. Stage identity, album release periods, and press outreach are all planned through this page.
