For Trendyol, Amazon, and Etsy sellers

Product photos on Trendyol, Amazon, and Etsy: Which ones should you click on, and which ones should you skip?

Sales on the marketplace begin with the small thumbnail image that appears in search results, even before the product page. First, we show what a correct and incorrect main image look like, and then we explain the shoot setup at the LUX Production Istanbul studio.

Anatomy of the Main Image

What do the correct and incorrect main images look like?

In the correct main image, a single product is displayed against a pure white background, fills at least of the frame, and has a long side greater than 1600 pixels. In incorrect examples, the product appears small within the frame, text and badges overlap the image, or the background shifts to a shade of gray-white in the 250-tone range.

Correct

Incorrect

Things You Can Do Today

  • The main image features a single product, a pure white background, and a thin border around the edges.
  • Keep the long side over 1,600 pixels; zooming works once this size is reached.
  • Shoot all variations using a single lighting setup and a fixed white balance setting.
  • Include a scale reference: show the product in your hand, on a table, or next to a familiar object.
  • Show the contents of the package in a single frame; make sure every item that comes out of the box is visible.

Mistakes That Slow Down Sales

  • Add text, a badge, a frame, a watermark, or a logo to the main image.
  • Show an accessory or decorative item that is not included with the product in the main image.
  • Continuous shooting with automatic white balance; the tones vary from frame to frame.
  • Increasing color saturation; a different product comes out of the box, and it gets returned.
  • Open the list with a single tap; questions will appear in the message and in the replies.

Every piece in the gallery has its own story

The main image showcases the product, and the following images answer the questions. The three images below were shot in our studio using actual products; each one answers a different question.

Where does poor visual design go wrong?

Three issues: no clicks, clicks that do come in don’t result in cart additions, and purchases that do result in cart additions end up as returns. The first issue is visibility; the second is paid ad clicks; and the third is shipping costs and review ratings.

Search results display

The listing competes with competitors on the same screen using a single small cover image.

Click

If the product isn’t legible in the thumbnail, that’s where the loss begins. Since the marketplace ranking tracks click behavior, visibility also drops.

Shopping Cart

If the dimensions, materials, and package contents are not shown in the image, no decision will be made. The cost of the click generated by the ad has been paid.

After delivery

If the color and scale are set incorrectly in the frame, it will result in return shipping costs, repackaging, and a lower review score.

The diagram shows the flow; the ratios vary by product, category, and price.

“They photographed the product images for our e-commerce company with great care, using professional, high-quality photographers. We didn’t even need to edit the photos—they were perfectly composed right from the start. We were very satisfied with this service, which was the first time we’d outsourced this work. Considering the quality of service this studio provides, their pricing is also very reasonable.”

Actual production

Are the product photos for the marketplace taken in person?

Yes. Every product is physically delivered to our studio in Istanbul. Meryem Aydın prepares the actual surfaces and objects for the product presentation, while Burak Bulut Yıldırım makes decisions regarding lighting and framing on set. The shoot proceeds in three steps: product inspection, set setup, and lighting adjustment.

Reflections on glossy glass and metal, texture on matte surfaces, and color accuracy in packaging are monitored during the shoot. Burak Bulut Yıldırım served as a Sony Alpha Europe Imaging Ambassador from 2018 to 2026. The goal is simple: to ensure that the product you see on screen matches the product that comes out of the box in terms of form and material feel.

Photos, videos, and a white background—all on the same day

If the project scope allows, photo shoots with set design, video shoots with set design, and white-background shoots can all take place simultaneously on the same day. A scope that would otherwise span 2–3 days is completed in just one day; the color scheme and visual style remain consistent across both photos and videos.

Products from various cities in Turkey and from Europe can be shipped to our studio; the selection, feedback, touch-ups, and delivery processes are all handled remotely.

Send us your product list, and let’s work together to determine the scope of the shoot

Please share the number of SKUs, the product category, and the target platforms. Let’s consolidate the requirements for the main image on a white background, detail shots, scale, usage, and video into a single plan. You can start with just one product.

Frame ratio

Why doesn't a single set of files work on all three platforms?

The same photo may appear cropped as a square on Amazon, vertically on Trendyol, and horizontally on Etsy. If the product isn’t centered and isn’t aligned with the edges, it will be cropped in the thumbnail. That’s why, during the shoot, not only the resolution but also the product’s position within the frame and the surrounding white space are determined in advance.

Starter Kit

How many photos should be taken of a product?

It includes 5 photos per product listing: a main image, two angles, one detail shot, and one scale shot. When package contents, a usage photo, and a short video are added, the total increases to 8. Etsy allows 10 photos and 1 video per listing.

When is taking photos with a phone enough, and when does it get too expensive?

A smartphone works well for a small number of products with matte or flat surfaces; a tripod, natural light, and a fixed white balance setting are sufficient. However, a smartphone struggles physically when photographing glass, metal, glossy packaging, jewelry, and fabric. The deciding factor is not the budget, but the product’s surface and the number of SKUs.

The reason is technical: the phone compensates for the loss caused by the small sensor through image processing—it merges multiple exposures, brightens shadows, and enhances edge sharpness. On shiny surfaces, this process evens out light reflections and thickens the texture. The second issue is color: since the auto white balance is recalculated for every frame, the tones shift between shots. The third is framing: when a box or bottle is shot up close with a wide-angle lens, it bulges forward due to perspective. The fourth issue is the file format: the range for correction is limited in 8-bit JPEGs; when the background is pushed to 255, the product’s edges become blurred.

The phone will do for now

  • There are few products, and the surface is matte and smooth.
  • You can use a tripod, natural light from a window, and a fixed white balance setting.
  • You can finish the entire series in one sitting, using the same settings.
  • There is no color variation, or it is very limited.
  • First, you'll test the listing and then make an investment based on the data.

The studio pays for itself in no time

  • Glass, metal, glossy packaging, transparent products, and jewelry.
  • Collections with a wide variety of colors.
  • Products such as fabrics, rugs, and towels, where texture and scale are the determining factors.
  • Listings with an allocated advertising budget; you pay per click.
  • Projects in which the same set will be used in the catalog, on the website, and on social media.
Platform Notes

What determines which details are listed on each platform?

Amazon

Separate the main image from the gallery

Text, logos, watermarks, and accessories not included with the product are not permitted in the main image. Horizontal images required for sizing, usage, and A+ Content should be prepared as secondary images.

Trendyol

The image must be one you took yourself

Trendyol requires that images be taken by the brand or seller; if used without permission, the product will be removed from sale. Written permission is required for supplier photos.

Etsy

The first frame determines the thumbnail

A white background is not required, but the subject must be centered. Details regarding materials, scale, packaging, and production will be provided in subsequent images.

The type of product also affects the decision. For metal and stone reflections, Jewelry photo for the marketplace requires different lighting control; for the shoe's shape, sole, and angle of use Tips for Photographing Shoes is also planned.

Actual product, physical set

Are the staged and stylized images actually shot on set?

Yes. When the product arrives at the studio, Meryem Aydın physically sets up the props, floor, background, color, and texture. Burak Bulut Yıldırım and the video team set up the lighting according to whether the surface is glossy, matte, glass, or metal. The following six frames were shot with real products; the decor, set, surfaces, and lighting were not generated by artificial intelligence.

Before and After the Shoot

What should you prepare before shipping a product?

5 pieces of information before the shoot will help speed up the process: SKU and variation list, target platforms, desired shots per product, sample visuals or brand guidelines, and post-shoot return policy.

Brand Requirements

  • List of SKUs, colors, sizes, and variations.
  • Products that are complete, clean, and ironed if necessary.
  • A replacement product in case of breakage or surface damage.
  • Actual accessory information to be displayed with the product.
  • Option to return or store after filming.

Approval, revisions, and delivery

  • The framing and focus are both confirmed during shooting.
  • Previews for the election are shared.
  • The selected frames are prepared in terms of color, clarity, perspective, and format.
  • Corrections related to color, formatting, and layout are included in the scope of the project.
  • For standard e-commerce projects, delivery is scheduled within 3 to 10 business days.

What determines the offer?

Project scope, number of products, type of shoot, model and set requirements, and post-production details. The total production plan is determined by the number of SKUs, the number of shots per product, surface complexity, whether a white background or a decorated set is required, infographic shots, video scope, and delivery formats.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Product Photography for Amazon, Trendyol, and Etsy

What should an Amazon product main image look like?

In the main product image on Amazon, the product must be shown as it actually appears, against a plain white background and without any distracting text, logos, watermarks, or graphic overlays. The product should appear prominent within the frame but must not be cropped. Infographics, measurements, usage instructions, and benefit descriptions should be separated from the main image and included in the secondary gallery images.

Is a single size sufficient for Trendyol product images?

No. On Trendyol, the image requirements for the category, product type, and the current upload area in the seller dashboard may vary. The framing does not work the same way for fashion, accessories, cosmetics, home decor, and food products. Before the shoot, separate framing ratios are determined for the main image, vertical catalog view, details, and, if necessary, product shots featuring a model.

Is a white background required for Etsy product photos?

No. A white background is not required for every product on Etsy. The platform recommends that listing images be at least 2,000 pixels wide and tall; it’s important that the first photo be landscape or square, and that the product remains centered in different thumbnail crops. For handmade and decorative items, the material, scale, and context of use may also be shown.

Can the same photos be used on Amazon, Trendyol, and Etsy?

Images from the same photo shoot can be adapted for three platforms, but using a single file directly across all platforms may not yield the desired results. Amazon’s main image is subject to stricter white background rules; on Trendyol, category and mobile catalog views are reviewed; on Etsy, cropping margins, product character, and usage context may be given greater importance.

Is it possible to have a photo shoot by shipping the products?

Yes. Products from various cities in Turkey and from Europe can be shipped to our Istanbul studio. Before shipment, the SKU list, variations, package contents, and target platforms are clearly specified in writing. When the products arrive, a physical inspection is conducted; the selection, feedback, retouching, and final delivery steps can all be carried out entirely remotely.

How long does it take to select and receive the photos after the shoot?

The delivery timeframe is determined based on the number of products, the type of shoot, and the scope of retouching. For standard e-commerce projects, a 3- to 10-business-day timeframe may apply; the exact selection and delivery schedule are finalized at the start of the project. After the shoot, previews are shared, and the selected images are prepared for color correction, retouching, cropping, and platform-specific formats.

How is the price for a marketplace product photo shoot determined?

Quotes are prepared based on the project scope, number of products, type of shoot, model and set requirements, and post-production details. The total production plan is determined by the number of SKUs, the number of frames per product, surface complexity, whether a white background or a decorated set is required, models, the number of shots allocated for infographics, the scope of the video, and the delivery formats.

How does the editing and revision process work?

Framing and focus are approved together during the shoot; previews are shared for selection after the shoot. Selected frames are retouched for color, surface cleanliness, perspective, framing, and required platform formats. Corrections related to color, cleanliness, and format in the delivered files are addressed within the scope of the project; new requests outside the scope are planned separately.

Can photos, videos, and a white background be shot on the same day?

Yes, provided the project scope allows for it. At our Istanbul studio, we can run staged photo shoots, staged video shoots, and product shoots against a white background on three parallel production lines. This allows us to complete a project that would otherwise take 2–3 days across multiple shoots in just one production day, while maintaining consistent color, product presentation, and framing decisions across all photos, videos, and catalog shots.

Were the product images on this page generated using artificial intelligence?

No. The sample shots on this page were produced using real products, on physical sets, and with studio lighting. Meryem Aydın prepares the actual surfaces and props for the product presentation; Burak Bulut Yıldırım and the video team set up the lighting according to the product. The visuals, decor, set, surfaces, or lighting are not generated by artificial intelligence; the product’s actual shape and texture are preserved.
